Dover Park Hospice Virtual Sunflower Dinner 2021

For the second consecutive year, Dover Park Hospice held its annual dinner virtually and close to 320 guests attended the Dover Park Hospice Virtual Sunflower Dinner 2021, with Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung as the Guest-of-Honour who addressed the guests through a recorded speech and Dr Tony Tan, as the patron of Dover Park Hospice and Mrs Mary Tan also attended the event from home.

The theme for this year’s dinner event was “Modern Peranakan”, which combined its rich cultural heritage with a modern touch to it through a specially curated dinner and a series of entertainment segments and activities. One of the main highlights of the event was a four-course Peranakan dinner, specially curated by Guest Chef Malcolm Lee of Michelin-starred restaurant Candlenut, Chef Willin Low of Wild Rocket and Chef Massimo Pasquarelli of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, delivered right to the doorsteps of guests.

Hosted by celebrity emcee Hossan Leong, the programme provided a variety of entertainment that included a skit performance and impromptu song composition by himself, a special performance by Dover Park Hospice Ambassador Gurmit Singh, as well as a host of activities related to the Peranakan culture. These included a trivia game where guests were put to the test on common Peranakan customs and traditions, a cookie decoration contest on Peranakan tile cookies, as well as a best dressed contest for guests decked out in their fancy Peranakan outfits. Other highlights of the evening included popular Peranakan-themed songs performed by Dover Park Hospice’s volunteer group, the GEMS Show Choir and silent auction.

In spite of the challenges faced due to COVID-19, Dover Park Hospice continues to uphold the provision of quality end-of-life care, while focusing on a holistic approach that involves medical, psychosocial, emotional, social and spiritual care through innovative ways.

This annual fundraiser continues to receive strong support from donors, sponsors and partners, to ensure that Dover Park Hospice continues to provide quality palliative care to patients as they transition through the different trajectories of their illnesses. With Inpatient Care, Home Care and Day Care, Dover Park Hospice ensures that patients and caregivers are cared for and best supported in the different care settings.
